endarchive is an open archive of urban experience built from the street. Using unique QR code tags allowing collaborators to reference their personal experiences of the city in physical space.
After placing a QR tag on an object or location, the tag is scanned using a QR scanner on a mobile device and an entry is created consisting of text and a photograph. Anyone on the street can then view the archive entry by scanning the tag. Endarchive.com is an online repository of user entries in New York City. It was presented during the Festival of Ideas for the New City.

The project is intentionally open; encouraging users to explore the format however they wish. Each archive might used as a located point of memory, commentary, protest, advocacy, etc…

I took the class Project Development Studio to work on SymbiosisS.
SymbiosisS is an electronic textile designed for public places where people need to wait for long time – such as hospitals or administration offices. The artifact visualizes minutes one spends while waiting; by taking a seat, an animation of pattern-patches start to appear on the three-dimensional carpet-like material.

fabrick.it is a collection of wearable electronic modules or “bricks” that make it easy to construct simple or complex wearable projects.

Studio5050 launched the first modules in September 2010. My task was to test the modules and develop the kit’s recent units and to help coming up with the new collection. I also made some tutorials, and finally learned how to use the sawing machine..

The morning metro comes, full with raiders – you either squeeze yourself inside the train or just wait for the next one and try to think up a new excuse why you were late.
We spent a lot of time in finding the best solution for getting peoples silhouette. We started building a control background (big light-box) and for the code we used Processing’s OpenCV library. At one point Microsoft’s Kinect was released and we realized it makes everything so simple. Basically in the last week we rewrote the code in openFrameworks and get rid of the background.

(b)AR is an augmented reality game, an interactive music installation designed to be used in pubs, parties or public places.

It is meant to be a social experiment, mixing cutting edge technology with entertainment, involving music and fun. Participating only requires to attach the AR sticker onto the bottom of the drink received. Each sticker is assigned to a certain instrument. The playing area is marked; the tracking camera must recognize and locate the sticker. By this time the music starts playing. The position, the rotation angle and the distance from a reference point ables to manipulate the sound.

I received Erasmus scholarship to Estonia for my final year of Bachelor degree on Mechatronics. I started to work at the Center for Biorobtics and I was given a task to develop a flexible robotic fish by using novel materials.

The goal of the research was to develop a biologically inspired robot fish using non-rigid material combination as a realization of the flexible body. The robot was equipped with only one actuator (servo motor), but with the smart material choice (silicon composition) and body shape the actuation was propagated along the backbone which resulted in a surprisingly fish-like swimming pattern. The fish was able to swim autonomously as well as coordinated from outside by changing the three parameters of the servo (amplitude, offset and frequency). During the experiments different shaped and stiffed caudal-fins were tried out and examined with regard the fish’s performance. The idea of Braitenberg’s vehicles (simple-wired vehicles showing rich behavior) was implemented. Moreover, a theoretical concept was developed as a possible solution of integrating robot fish to real environment.

I continued working with Kärt and in the beginning of 2010 the concept of SymboisisW was born. We got accepted to Pixelache Helsinki 2010 exhibition.

SymbiosisW is a three-dimentional material constructed of hexagonal cells. It senses human touch and – as a response – small cell-patterns start to grow out under the person’s hand. While keeping the hand against the object, the motive spreads; it also enables to create the desired arrangements of pattern. Touch is one of the strongest intermediary, however, in the same time very personal and intimate.

Robeo likes Robia, who is only enchanted by light. Robeo’s sensory system (two IR receiver) was triggered by modulated IR light that was placed on robia’s “tail”. Robia was equipped with two photo transistors, and she was “looking for” lighter areas. Both of the vehicles also had proximity sensors for avoiding collision.

The idea comes from the Braitenberg vehicle’s – robots in which the sensor reading control actuation through a per-defined map. The result is rich reactive behavior that is nicely and strongly tied to the environment. Braitenberg Vehicles : Experiments in synthetic psychology.

I met the textile artist Kärt Ojavee at the Center for Biorobotics. She was a Candidate for PHd in the Estonian Art Academia, and as her interest focused in smart textiles, she became a member of the biorobotics lab. I started to help her for her the exhibition [“Undefined Useful Objects”] in Tallinn, December 2009, by the end of the year we became good friends. This lead to our project, SymbisosiO – a fruit of our collaboration.

Interactive techno-social flock of e-Sheep

Manenmane concept was made by the co-operation of BME Industrial Design faculty and Kitchen Budapest.

Manenmane is an interactive, distributed social installation. The organic form of the sculpture is inspired by the peaceful sight of a lone sheep grazing on green grass. While each individual sculpture resides alone in its own city, hundreds are digitally linked to form an internationally distributed flock. Ultimately the goal of the project is to produce meaningful short-term virtual connections between random people located in different cities and countries. Above all, the installation encourages tolerance, allowing connections between different sexes, ages, races, religions and social status.

In the following projects we explored smoking as a topic. This habit has a rich social and cultural context, despite its negative effects on health. We were interested in the space occupied by smokers, designed objects related to smoking and explored the cultural romance attached to it.

While smokers keep ignoring signs like “SMOKING KILLS”, we experiment with an “educational” flower: It coughs silly when it detects smoke! Made with Attila Bujdosó at KIBU presented in Lift 2009, Geneva/Switzerland

post-modern smoking accessory

More and more European countries decide to ban smoking in public spaces. The ones who would like to light up a cigarette must find the smoking area, which is mostly outside of the building, in the fresh air. Generally speaking the area reserved for smokers is becoming smaller every day and because of this they became isolated.
In the Smooking area project we are reflecting the reducing space for smokers by inventing a little, funny personal smoking area fastened to the arms and separating the hands holding the cigarette from the outside space.

I gained a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design Engineering and in Mechatronics, both with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
To describe my educational background, I also find it essential to mention that I have worked as a researcher at Kitchen Budapest media lab. Kibu is a lovely playground; its main driving idea is learning by playing (teaching by playing, rather), spiced with humor and surprise. There, I fully confirmed what was previously just an intuition: that design and mechatronics are complementary – and that art and technology at large are as well.
In 1009, I became a member of the Center for Biorobotics at Tallinn University of Technology. I learned a lot from this laboratory: how to bring ideas to an actual physical form and how to move within the engineering mindset.
Currently I am enrolled in NYU Tisch ITP’s Masters program where I can continue seeking creative interdisciplinary applications with a technological edge. All projects I take interest is come from generating ideas and coming up with novel solutions where intuition is essential. The following key-words describe the best what influences my work: soft electronics, experience/interaction design, game design, robotics, educative thinking.
